MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

Alexis Taylor who loved her work all the time, owner of Taylor Investments, the top financial firm in the country had everything but is lonely and certainly stressed around the Christmas holidays. She had given up falling in love a long time ago, all her boyfriends she dated had a relationship with her as more of a business partnership. She always put work first. When it's Christmas Eve, it's only Alexis who is working. She had employees working which made her proud. Instead of bringing excitement and the holiday feel to her office as a boss, she was grieving her parents and totally disconnected from the lights and decorations that brought magical moments. As she started to hallucinate, she had to be in charge of her emotions. Because of her work, she never celebrated Christmas.

That's when Justin drives her around as her employee wants to reveal his feelings for her. Her driver, Justin admired Alexis's strength, dedication, and fearlessness. You can give your whole life to your career and sacrifice on a daily basis therefore it was a price that Alexi paid that this story brings to a reader's attention. Instead of accepting the present moment everything she talked about brought stress in her. Everything Alexi did was connected to her career. In the end, Justin turns out to be a Trustworthy person she can confide about her frustrations with work and relationships even though losing her parents brings pain and memories. The last thing she wanted was to love someone truly again and risk losing them like she had lost her parents. Was Alexi better off lonely? Can the wonderful festive season spark her to return to the Christmas spirit that she kindled 20 years ago during her childhood with her mom and dad whom she missed dearly?

With touches of humor, laughs, and emotions, the author has brought the Christmas spirit in me. Highly recommend reading at this season of Christmas. Thanks to NetGalley and Hawktale Publishing for a digital complimentary copy for my honest review.

MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW After Pearl is a captivating historical mystery set in 1942, during the turbulent months following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The novel follows Nicholas Bishop, an alcoholic private investigator and shell-shocked WWI veteran, who wakes up in a seedy hotel room with a hangover, a foggy memory, and two bullets missing from his revolver. Worse still, lounge singer Pearl DuGaye is dead, and Bishop is the prime suspect. As he stumbles through a haze of forgotten days, Bishop—assisted by the sharp and capable Gia Alessi, a loyal sidekick who may or may not still be on his payroll—dives into a web of deceit and danger. His investigation leads him through Buffalo’s underworld, rubbing shoulders with crooked politicians, high-society elites, and an underground group of American Nazis. All the while, he’s haunted by flashbacks from the Great War and shadowed by a one-eyed dog named Jake. The pacing is tight and energetic. The mystery unfolds gradually but never drag...
