MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

I loved this book so much. It is so beautifully written, amazingly researched with an author's note, and absolutely delightful. This book is based on the fictional Bomber Command Station in Lincolnshire.

Just after Pearl Cooper left school at the age of 18 and her Job as a Journalist at Shrewsbury Mirror to earn for her grandmother and keep a watch on her sister Thea. Pearl Joins the Air Force as a WAAF Corporal radio telephony operator communicating with pilots of aircraft from the watch office at Bomber Command Station. Her selflessness, bravery, determination, strength of character, and patriotism can't be ignored by the reader which brings excitement. I couldn't put down some chapters as they had thought-provoking research about what happened at there as a huge expansion of bombing operations after 1942.

The novel has wonderful characters, a fabulous story, a clean romance, adventure, and terrifying realities of life during WW2. When Pearl meets Jenny at Fenthrope they become instant friends, she gets close to Met WAAF Jenny, the meteorological assistant as well as Australian pilot Greg and she starts her own newspaper that she always was excited about. It was very interesting to read about how they fought in the skies with bombs falling and taking the risk of any time when anyone could get killed.

Thanks to Netgalley and Rachel's Random Resources for an advance copy for my honest review.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

With an enemy in their midst, can they still protect their fighters in the skies?

Pearl has given up on her dreams of being a journalist after being denied a promotion because of her gender. Joining the WAAF as a radio telephone operator for Bomber Command, Pearl's new job at RAF Fenthorpe serves two purposes – providing an income for her grandmother, and keeping a close eye on her younger sister, Thea, an instrument repairer at another Lincolnshire bomber station.

Pearl befriends Met WAAF Jenny as well as Australian pilot Greg, who she guides home safely during an emergency. Pearl's journalism background doesn't go to waste, however – a series of thefts from pilots rekindles her investigative fire and she is soon caught up in the mystery.

But when all signs point to the perpetrator being her sister, she finds herself up against the clock to prove her sister’s innocence…

A captivating and heartwarming WWII saga for fans of Daisy Styles and Johanna Bell.

MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW After Pearl is a captivating historical mystery set in 1942, during the turbulent months following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The novel follows Nicholas Bishop, an alcoholic private investigator and shell-shocked WWI veteran, who wakes up in a seedy hotel room with a hangover, a foggy memory, and two bullets missing from his revolver. Worse still, lounge singer Pearl DuGaye is dead, and Bishop is the prime suspect. As he stumbles through a haze of forgotten days, Bishop—assisted by the sharp and capable Gia Alessi, a loyal sidekick who may or may not still be on his payroll—dives into a web of deceit and danger. His investigation leads him through Buffalo’s underworld, rubbing shoulders with crooked politicians, high-society elites, and an underground group of American Nazis. All the while, he’s haunted by flashbacks from the Great War and shadowed by a one-eyed dog named Jake. The pacing is tight and energetic. The mystery unfolds gradually but never drag...
