MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

The novel "How Not To Murder Your Ex" presents an intriguing premise: a woman named Clio, a single mother, finds herself in a precarious situation when her despised ex-partner, Gary, is discovered dead on her doorstep. As the prime suspect in his murder, Clio faces the challenge of proving her innocence despite her hazy memory of the night due to alcohol consumption and memory lapses associated with aging.

The narrative revolves around Clio's struggle to recall the events of that fateful night while grappling with the suspicion that she might have been involved in Gary's demise. Alongside her, Clio's two best friends, Amber and Jeanie, become embroiled in the mystery as they try to unravel the truth and clear Clio's name. The story promises suspense, intrigue, and a race against time to find the real culprit before it's too late.

The setting on the English coast adds an atmospheric backdrop to the unfolding events, and the story seems to blend elements of mystery and dark humor, drawing comparisons to novels like "The Thursday Murder Club" and other works in the genre.

The novel appears to offer a thrilling and engaging read for fans of mysteries and suspenseful storytelling, combining elements of personal conflict, friendship, and a quest for truth within the framework of a murder investigation.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advance digital copy for my honest review

BOOK DESCRIPTION

It is 5:30 am on Clio's forty-fifth birthday and her hated ex is lying dead on her doorstep. Even worse, this is no accident. Someone’s killed him...

When single mum Clio’s ex Gary turns up dead on the doorstep of her caravan – the one she’s been forced to live in ever since he stole every penny she had – there’s only one suspect. Her.

What’s more, she doesn’t remember much about the night he was killed – not just because of the forgetfulness that’s been plaguing her along with the hot flushes – but because she definitely had one too many cocktails with her two best friends Amber and Jeanie.

Clio does remember them talking about how much they all hated him though. And, in the frame for murder, she has to ask herself – if she didn’t kill Gary, who did? One of his many enemies? Or someone a little closer to home? And can she and her friends find the real killer before it’s too late?

Unputdownable mystery set on the English coast – perfect for fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Bad Sisters, and How to Kill Your Family.

MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW After Pearl is a captivating historical mystery set in 1942, during the turbulent months following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The novel follows Nicholas Bishop, an alcoholic private investigator and shell-shocked WWI veteran, who wakes up in a seedy hotel room with a hangover, a foggy memory, and two bullets missing from his revolver. Worse still, lounge singer Pearl DuGaye is dead, and Bishop is the prime suspect. As he stumbles through a haze of forgotten days, Bishop—assisted by the sharp and capable Gia Alessi, a loyal sidekick who may or may not still be on his payroll—dives into a web of deceit and danger. His investigation leads him through Buffalo’s underworld, rubbing shoulders with crooked politicians, high-society elites, and an underground group of American Nazis. All the while, he’s haunted by flashbacks from the Great War and shadowed by a one-eyed dog named Jake. The pacing is tight and energetic. The mystery unfolds gradually but never drag...
