Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

"Paris at First Light," part of the WW2 Resistance Series by Amanda Lees, is a captivating and deeply emotional portrayal of wartime Paris, offering readers a poignant glimpse into the lives of individuals navigating the complexities of World War II.

Set against the backdrop of the Nazi occupation of Paris, the novel follows the lives of several compelling characters whose paths intertwine amidst the chaos of war. The author skillfully captures the atmosphere of fear, uncertainty, and resistance that permeated the city during this tumultuous period, painting a vivid and immersive picture of the era.

The characters in "Paris at First Light" are richly developed and multi-dimensional. Each protagonist brings a unique perspective to the story, and their individual struggles, sacrifices, and bravery add depth to the narrative. Readers will find themselves emotionally invested in their journeys, rooting for their resilience and strength in the face of adversity.

One of the strengths of this novel is its evocative storytelling. MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

The novel's background and the setting takes place in Paris and in Berlin. True story of Kindertransport rescue and two women during the time of World War 2 named Rachel who is nineteen years old from the Landau family and Kay Alexander, an American debutante fighting for love, family and hope.

Berlin: Rachel is left horrified and afraid when her two little Landau sisters, Leah (16) and Tovah (13) gets arrested outside Paris by the French police who take orders from Nazis. Rachel is determined to come up with a plan to set her sisters free and takes it as a challenge. When they never thought France was so unsafe with ruthless and sadistic SS men and French police under the hidden Nazi's ugly deeds had put fear in them and they took refuge in the countryside in an old chateau. Rachel had left Berlin with an American woman. Her hope was that Kay who keeps a room at the hotel Ritz in Paris could help her rescue her sisters from the Gestapo.

Paris: Kay just arrives in Paris escaping her cold blooded and selfish mother who is wanting Kay to find a suitable husband, get married and settle down dutifully. As America goes in war, Kay Alexander as known to the Gestapo, Philadelphia society's blue blood and heiress to a candy fortune also spying for the allies, being an enemy alien in the eyes of Germans found it too dangerous to stay in Paris. But Kay the main line wild party loving debutante must help Rachel rescue her sisters get them out of France to America. It will take more than luck for the Jewish refugees to enter the states with strict immigration laws and national security concerns.

Even when the world crumbles around them the two women find limitless courage and hope to save the ones they love from the dangerous enemies clutches by supporting each other. This story kept me intriguing, going back in times and places in Europe and which was heartbreaking and gripping.

#Book Review #Overcome Your Villains: Mastering Your Beliefs, Actions, and Knowledge to Conquer Any Adversity #Heather Monahan #Publisher ‏: HarperCollins Leadership

       MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

This book is all about how the author Heather Monahan has learned to rebuild her confidence after she was fired from her corporate job to help us find the kind of success in our lives that we are dreaming of. She is the author of her first self published book, Confidence Creator. She shows how to identify the villains in your life by creating confidence in three easy steps. Beliefs - the self talk and other internal messages we have accepted as truth. Actions - the actions we are currently taking - and plan to take in the future - to find success and happiness. Knowledge - the information and skills we need be more effective people in every aspect of our work and personal lives.

There are many key takeaways in this book at the end of each chapter; but some of my favorite ones are mentioned below:

These are some of the amazing takeaways:

      • We cannot expect things to always go our way. The more we embrace the unexpected, the faster we can pivot.
      • Only limits you have are the limits you believe.
      • Successful people don't always know the how; they trust themselves to figure it out along the way.
      • When you're facing difficult times, focus on something you're looking forward to in the future. Once you reach that, focus on something new to look forward to.
      • In any business transaction, both sides have to benefit. When one side benefits but not the other, it's not sustainable.
      • If the road to victory looks too rough, it might be time for a different approach.
      • Pick a song to couple with your vision.
      • Just because you haven't found a solution yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist- it just means you need to keep looking.
      • Until we realize our value, no one else will either.

Fear is a liar: The author states that fear is a liar nothing but false ideas one have made up in one's own mind. Some say it's an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real. It is worse than any reality. When we feel fear, we should not not run away and hide. Instead we should run towards it and embrace it.

Fear is a green light that means go and go faster!

Fear is not real, we just need to accept the power to dissolve it.

Just Think Bigger: Have people who are ahead of you. Surround yourself with successful people they will inspire you to push past your current limitations and allow you to see something much bigger in your current limitations and allow you to see something much bigger in yourself that you hadn't previously thought of. Accessing knowledge from those who are light-years ahead of us is priceless.

Don't Hide From Your Haters: Haters are a sign you are succeeding. Haters are a sign that you are shining your light. Haters are a sign that you are not vanilla. Celebrate when haters come. Take action by leveraging haters comments to elicit help and support yourself.

This book is simple and easy read. Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher : HarperCollins Leadership for an advance copy for my honest review. I just reviewed Overcome Your Villains by Heather Monahan #OvercomeYourVillains #NetGalley.

Amid the chaos of the Great War, two elite assassins learn precisely how dangerous it is to have something—or someone—worth losing.

Washington, DC, 1914. Ivy Olwen knows how to survive on the streets without two coins to rub together. Then destiny thrusts her into the nest of a covert agency of assassins sworn to drive back the world’s darkness, and she acquires a new set of lethal skills. Her education—from explosives to etiquette, sharpshooting to sabotage—is as far reaching as the organization’s missions. But it’s the hours she spends among the towering bookshelves in the library and stargazing on the roof with Agent Jack Vale that make her heart fly.

Jack knew plenty of hardship before the agency refined his rough edges, transforming him into the man who never misses. But he didn’t know the feeling of home until Ivy entered his world. Now Jack’s heart drums with a singular purpose: he will fight for her, fight alongside her. No matter the cost.

When the pair is sent on a seemingly simple mission to take down Russia’s newest and most dangerous arms dealer—a soulless man using the Great War as an opportunity to further his own depraved agenda—they discover that no amount of training could have prepared them for a manhunt that takes them across the frozen tundra, to the Crimean Peninsula, and along the Trans-Siberian Railway . . . only to discover that there is evil in the world they will never understand.
