Book Review #An Unsuitable Heiress: # Jane Dunn #Historical Romances #Publisher ‏ : ‎ Boldwood Books

MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

Corinna Ormesby has spent a tranquil life in the countryside with her cranky Cousin Agnes since the loss of her mother. At the age of 19, Corinna realizes that discovering her father's name may be her only chance to avoid getting married to the hateful Mr. Beech. Her father's identity has always been a tantalizing mystery.

Corinna decides to travel to London and dons a man's disguise. When Corinna travels alone as a young woman, she runs the risk of scandal and peril. However, when she poses as a youngster and makes friends with three dashing men—the attractive and competent Alick Wolfe, the dapper Ferdinand Shilton, and the unrepentant Lord Purfoy—she gains access to the world of Regency England, which is exclusively for men. And when she encounters Alick's troubled brother Darius, a breach of trust results in a conflict that is fatal.

Corinna's rural simplicity quickly dissipates as she encounters courtesans in Covent Garden and gambles in gentleman's clubs. But when she finally meets her father, learns the truth about her origins, and sees how her fortunes have changed, she must make a rapid decision about how to come out as who she really is while hoping that one young man in particular will recognize her true beauty and status as a Lady.

The Regency era is vividly brought to life by Sunday Times bestselling author Jane Dunn in this page-turning story filled with romance, intrigue, friendship, and color.  ideal for Jane Austen enthusiasts. Janice Hadlow, Gill Hornby, and anybody who has a void in their lives that resembles Bridgerton.

Loved the authors writing and the characters she brought to life through this novel capturing the Regency England Era. Thanks to Netgalley, Rachel Random Resources and Boldwood books for an advance copy for my honest review.

#AUTHOR INTERVIEW WITH KELLY IRVIN #A DEADLY WILDERNESS #ALLY PRESS PUBLISHERS #MYSTERY & THRILLERS #Q&A

Book Description

A frantic anonymous crisis center hot-line call propels counselor Susana Martinez-Acosta smack into the center of a murder investigation and a homicide detective’s arms. Exactly where she doesn’t want to be. Following the tragic death of her husband, she’s struggled to build a safe haven for herself and her son. That new world doesn’t include hit men and persistent detectives with dangerous jobs.

An idyllic wilderness hike turns deadly when homicide detective Ray Johnson tumbles into a ravine and lands on a corpse later identified as the son of a prominent citizen. Ray works to solve the political hot potato murder before city leaders bump him from the case. His determination to find the man’s killer leads him from the wealthiest enclaves in San Antonio to the city’s dark underbelly, all the while trying to win the woman he loves.

A Deadly Wilderness is a romantic suspense novel that will take the reader along on a tumultuous journey as the consuming need for material wealth drives a deadly wedge among family members who haven’t learned when enough really is enough. The journey ends where it began—in a deadly wilderness.

Q & A  with Author Kelly Irvin, Interview for the book - A Deadly Wilderness

1) You are the author of more than 30 Amish romances, romantic suspense novels

and nonfiction. What inspired you to write this novel, A Deadly Wilderness?

I was the public relations manager for the city Parks and Recreation Department for more than 20 years. I always secretly thought some of the parks would make great places to commit murder. I set all my romantic suspense novels in San Antonio, because it’s historic, multicultural, and has lots of nooks and crannies perfect for stowing dead bodies. I also wanted to write a really psycho assassin who still had a bit of humanity in him. I knew who my killer was, who the hero was, and where the murders would occur. I just needed the plot. LOL I’m a seat-of-the-pants writer so I sort of figured it out as I went along.

2) How many books have you written? When did you write your first book?

Including the ones in the publishing pipeline, I’ve written 32 novels and 8 novellas. I started writing my first book the day after my 45th birthday, in 2003. Being a published novelist had always been my dream and I figured it was now or never. That first novel was never published. Nor was the second. It took three years to get an agent and another four to get a publishing contract.

3) Author Kelly Irvin’s book, A Deadly Wilderness is a story of murder, suspense, and

greed that involves in the book A Deadly Wilderness is a police officer, a domestic violence hotline volunteer, and an assassin). Where did you get your research and or ideas for your book?

Having been a newspaper reporter for ten years before going into public relations, I had plenty of exposure to the more sordid side of life. As a sideline, I proofread trial transcripts for three U.S. District Court reporters. Over the years, those trials included three death penalty cases, several sexual assaults of children, horrendous murders of all sorts. While not an uplifting experience in terms of my view on the human race, it provided me with endless, intimate details of how crimes are committed and how they are solved. I used those details in my fiction to give it an authentic, realistic feel.

4) Being a proud writer at the age of 65, When did you first realize that you wanted to

be a writer?

I always wanted to be a writer. My sister and I “published” a newspaper when we were in grade school. I wrote short stories, poems, and even a play all the way through high school. Then I decided to get a degree in journalism because I thought it would be easier to support myself than trying to be a fiction writer. I worked as a reporter for 10 years, got married, switched to public relations, had two children, and my days were stuffed to the brim. I still had the itch to write fiction. As I mentioned earlier, on my 45th birthday, I knew my time was running out. My kids were in middle school and I still worked 40-plus hours a week—and cooked, cleaned, grocery-shopped, went to church, chauffered, and freelanced. Still I managed to squeeze in writing times—usually very early in the morning or late in the evening.

5) What are some ways you can suggest to me to become a better writer or as an

aspiring author?

Definitely practice your craft. Write, write, write. Attend craft workshops and writing conferences. Join writing organizations. Get in a critique group where you can help each other improve your stories. Write as often as you can—every day if possible. Never stop learning.

6) Can you think of a particular book or project in your writing career you are proud

of as an accomplishment of being an author?

I’m proud of all my books, in different ways, but A Deadly Wilderness has a special place in my heart because the original, hardback library edition was my first published book. I’m thrilled that it’s releasing now in paperback and e-book for the first time so that it’ll be more accessible to the many readers I’ve gained since it was originally released in 2012.

7) You have a long career history in writing. Has your experience crafted your

storytelling?

Definitely. I can write stories now that I couldn’t have written when I was in my twenties. I lived along the Texas-Mexico border for five years, then in San Antonio for going on 35 years. I’ve experienced a lot of heartache, lots of great joy, and learned so much about life. All of those experiences are poured into my story.,

8) Where can your readers find your books and learn more about you?

All my books are available at on-line book retailers. Get more details with buy link on my website at

BOOK ON TOUR #BOOK REVIEW # A NOBLE CUNNING BY PATRICIA BERNSTEIN #HISTORICAL FICTION/CHRISTIAN #HISTORY THROUGH FICTION PUBLISHERS

MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

The Countess of Clarencefield, Bethan Glentaggart, a Catholic living among the pagans of Protestantism, is the subject of the book. Even when the thugs of London tried to raid her Heath Hall house one night in search of priests hiding in the building, she was forbidden from displaying any signs of fear or weakness. When William of Orange invaded England, she and her family fled to France, and Lucy became their closest friend. She was married to Gavin, the Earl of Clarencefield and Baron Cleughbrae, who was also a Catholic. It appeared unavoidable that the Church of England and Catholics would go to war. The Jacobite Rebellion began in 1715 as a result of the death of Queen Anne and the following coronation of King George of Hanover, the first and only German-born monarch of England.

Gavin immediately left Heath Hall to join his fellow citizens in the fight for Catholics' right to practice their religion freely and to remove George of Hanover from the English crown.

Gavin was captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London. Thankfully, Gavin was able to inform his wife, Bethan, the Countess, of his whereabouts. She was urged to travel to London as soon as feasible by him. Bethan was told by Gavin to bring as much cash as she could. Gavin would need her assistance in requesting his release. The Countess's greatest dread had materialized.

The Countess came up with a strategy to save Gavin. Her committed group of female friends provided extensive assistance. Even though it was a wonderful strategy, nothing had to go wrong for her to succeed in saving Gavin's life. The day before Gavin was supposed to be put to death, the Countess intended to carry it out. Was she, together with her strong female pals, up to the task? Would the Countess's strategy be able to prevent the death of her cherished husband?

This book,  A Noble Cunning, is a Christian historical fiction that focuses mainly on how the war between Catholics and Protestants prevailed since the olden times,  I enjoyed the thought-provoking bible verses the author quoted in the beginning chapters of the book.

A must-read for historical fiction readers as the author has put in the effort to well research the true events. Thanks to NetGalley and Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours for an advance copy of my honest review

BOOK DESCRIPTION

A thrilling tale, based on a true story, of one woman’s tremendous courage and incomparable wit in trying to rescue her husband from the Tower of London the night before he is to be executed.

The heroine of A Noble Cunning, Bethan Glentaggart, Countess of Clarencefield, a persecuted Catholic noblewoman, is determined to try every possible means of saving her husband’s life, with the help of a group of devoted women friends.
Amid the turbulence of the 1715 Rebellion against England’s first German king George I, Bethan faces down a mob attack on her home, travels alone from the Scottish Lowlands to London through one of the worst snowstorms in many years, and confronts a cruel king before his court to plead for mercy for her husband Gavin. As a last resort, Bethan and her friends must devise and put in motion a devilishly complex scheme featuring multiple disguises and even the judicious use of poison to try to free Gavin.
Though rich with historical gossip and pageantry, Bethan’s story also demonstrates the damage that politics and religious fanaticism can inflict on the lives of individuals.

Book Tour #Book Review #Covert in Cairo: A BRAND NEW cozy murder mystery from Kelly Oliver for 2023 (A Fiona Figg & Kitty Lane Mystery Book 2)#Publisher ‏ : ‎ Boldwood Books #Women's Adventure Fiction

MY THOUGHTS AND BOOK REVIEW

Both Fiona and Miss Kitty Lane are employed by British intelligence. They have been sent on a mission to defend the Suez Canal from any evil schemes that Fredrick Fredricks may be hatching. German spy Frederick Fredericks is well-known for being a jerk. This book features a fugitive murderer, a kidnapping, suspects, a horrible crime, spy, fashion, adventure, and murder investigation. My interest in identifying the criminal was piqued by the novel's missing agent, Dankworth, and the murder of Monsieur Jean Baptiste Lorraine, the archaeologist.  Agent Dankworth and Jean Baptiste were collaborating to infiltrate an illicit antiquities network.

The connections between the many incidents give this mystery a fantastic narrative.

A nice, interesting, and enjoyable book for fans of mysteries. I adored the characters and the exciting plot. There are numerous events that are referenced in and around Cairo, the capital of Egypt. I appreciate receiving a free copy from Partners in Crime Virtual Tours and Boldwood Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

1917 Cairo.

Ancient mummies aren’t the only bodies buried in the tombs of Cairo.

The notorious Fredrick Fredricks has lured Fiona to Egypt with a cryptic threat on the Suez Canal.

But when a cheeky French archeologist is murdered, and an undercover British agent goes missing, the threat moves closer to home.

Is the notorious Fredrick Fredricks behind the murders? Or is the plot even more sinister?

Competing excavators, jealous husbands, secret lovers, and belligerent spies are the leading suspects.

As they dig deeper, soon Fiona and Kitty are up to their donkeys in dead bodies.

If they can’t unwind the clues and catch the killer, they might end up sharing a sarcophagus with Nefertiti.

With humor as dry as the Arabian desert, and pacing as fast as a spitting camel, Fiona and Kitty are back in another sparkling adventure, this time in WW1 Egypt.
