"Deadly Gold Rush" throws Harriet Keaton into a chaotic situation when a real estate developer is found brutally murdered on her family's property, amidst a pile of valuable 1830s gold coins. The immediate prime suspect is Harriet's estranged twin brother, Joey, who claims innocence but refuses to identify the actual killer. This mystery becomes even more pressing as millions of dollars are discovered to be missing from the residents' retirement accounts at the Independence Retirement Community, threatening its very existence.

Harriet, along with her two unlikely sleuthing partners – the sharp legal mind Craig Travail and the eccentric conspiracy theorist Yeager Alexander – must delve into the past to uncover the truth. Their investigation leads them to a memoir written by Harriet's late, treasure-obsessed father, which hints at a long-lost gold hoard. As they follow the trail of vanished fortunes and a growing list of suspects, the trio realizes they are unearthing decades of betrayal. They must race against time to solve the murder and recover the missing money before the killer claims another victim.

"Deadly Gold Rush" by Landis Wade sounds like a highly entertaining and well-crafted mystery. It offers a strong hook, a unique setting, a promising ensemble of characters, and a mystery that is both immediate and deeply rooted in the past. For fans of cozy mysteries with a touch of thriller and a dash of historical intrigue, this book appears to be must-read. Landis Wade is a recovering trial lawyer turned author who writes award-winning mysteries and legal thrillers with a historical bent.
